Pongo de Mainique Expeditions, JUNGLE TRIPS

Pongo of Mainique is a rich jungle up in the high Andes. Pongo wildlife is made up of blue and gold, scarlet and green wing macaws, lowland tapir’s, and peccaries among other animals. The jungle is primarily a tour that takes you to all these places and gives a stunning impression of Peru. This trip is a dream location for a Photographer that will leave him or her wanting more.

FIRST DAY: : Cusco, Abra de Malaga, San Luis, Santa Maria, Quillabamba.

The first day we will begin our descent down to the jungle. We will take a private transport to the valley, and head north to the city of Quillabamba. During the drive, we will go through Abra de Malaga into the high jungle with its coffee and banana plantations.

SECOND DAY:Quillabamba – Kiteni- Ivochete

On the second day, we will continue further north to the Urubamba River. Our guide will teach us about the area about the spectacular flora and fauna, the birds, and the fruit in this vibrant area of Peru.

THIRD DAY: Ivochote - Pongo de Mainique - Timpia

We will pass through the small jungle towns till we get to the port of Ivochote. In Ivochote we will board our motorized canoe for the journey through the Pongo de Mainique, and the rich jungle. Once we arrive at Pongo we will have the opportunity to admire the beauty of this truly spiritual area. We will see the waterfall which is known as the portal to the afterlife for the Machiguenga Indians.

FOURTH DAY:Timpia, Ivochote, Quillabamba

In the morning, we will visit a Macaw Claylick, which is a feeding area for Macaws and is situated near our campsite. On our return from the Claylick, we will have breakfast, and our expert guide will give us a tour of the various plantations that make up our jungle center. Also if you would like we will walk through the jungle and see the incredible scenery, and learn about the indigenous plants and animals in the area.

FIFTH DAY:Quillabamba - Cusco

After Breakfast, we will return to Cusco and transfer to the hotel.
