Lares Valley to Machupicchu 4 Days, PERU ADVENTURE

On this trip, we will hike for 5-7 hours per day, at an altitude of about 2900 meters above sea level, where we will have an impressive view point of snowy mountains peaks and beautiful lakes. We will camp close to communities in order to be able to observe the art and the textile work that is created by the communities.

FIRST DAY: Cusco – Calca – Lares Hot Springs – Cuncani

After breakfast, we will leave Cusco early in the morning by bus and travel through the Sacred Valley and finally arriving at Lares Hot Springs. During the morning we will get a chance to enjoy a bath in the Hot Springs and afterward have Lunch. After a nice relaxing morning, we will our two hours of a trek to our Campsite.

SECOND DAY:Cuncani – Epsaycocha

We will continue through the Valley; until we arrive at the Community of Huacawasi. The Huacawasi community produces some of the finest weavings in Peru. During our visit to Huacacwasi, we will see the community’s greatest trade, the fabrication of ponchos and other garments. After we finish in Huacawasi we will begin climbing up to Condor Pass, the second part the trip. From here we will see a stunning view of the renowned Mount Veronica (5750 meters above the sea), and descend gently for about one hour. Our final visit is the beautiful Espsaycocha Lake, our last Campsite.

THIRD DAY: Epsaycocha – Patacancha – Huylloc – Pumamarka – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes.

The third day will lead us to downhill to a valley. We will eventually arrive at the community of Willoc where we will have lunch. From Willoc it will take two hours to arrive at Pumamarka, and enjoy the Inca terraces, we will see Ollantaytambo, an archeological site, which is situated in a fertile river valley, and sheltered by mammoth mountains. The site is a perfect place to get an appreciation for the vast archeological remains, and a wide variety of flowers and bird species. Our group will take the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, and spend the night in a selected hotel.

FOURTH DAY:Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco

After breakfast, we will take a bus to Machupicchu. We will register and start a three-hour tour. After the tour, we will have a nice lunch at the Sanctuary Hotel. During the afternoon, we will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes where you will have free time to enjoy the town before we return to Cusco.

What you need to bring and carry

  • A backpack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek
  • Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
  • Strong footwear, ideally trekking or sport shoes
  • Warm clothes, including jacket, fleece, and sweaters
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Camera, films, and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain or cold
  • Sun block
  • Insect repellent
  • Toilet paper
  • Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, etc.
  • Water bottle and sterilizing tablets
